Undergraduate Certificate in Agronomic Crop Production

Description

The courses in this program provide an understanding of the importance of agronomic crops for our state and national economy; how agronomic growth, development, and yield interact with environmental factors during the production season; sustainable production systems for agronomic crops; and marketing and distribution issues of these crops that can be related to world hunger. Individual courses will vary in instruction style, exam methods and assignments, and will include an assortment of on-line instruction methodology, video and PowerPoint presentations, outside readings, and on-line discussion sessions.

Curriculum
(What will I learn?)

Students completing the University Certificate in Agronomic Crop Production must complete a minimum of 12 credit hours with minimum of C- or better in each class. The program must be completed within three calendar years, beginning with the initial course enrollment date. The Certificate will be awarded upon successful completion of required and elective courses.

Students who have graduated or are currently enrolled in the Plant and Soil Sciences undergraduate baccalaureate degree program at N.C. State University are not eligible for this certificate.

Required Courses (7 hours) :

  • CS 213 – Crops: Adaptation and Production 1,2 (4 hours)
  • CS 230 – Introduction to Agroecology 3 (3 hoours)

Elective Courses : (A minimum of 5 hours from the following course list)

  • CS 216 – Oil Seed Crop Production 4 (3)
  • CS 218 – Cereal Grain Crop Production 3 (2)
  • CS 224 – Seeds, Biotechnology & Societies 1 (3)
  • CS 312 – Grassland Management for Natural Resources Conservation 4 (3)
  • SSC 200 – Soil Science 3,5 (3)

2 One semester of General Biology is required.

5 This course has a General Chemistry pre-requisite.
