North Carolina Park Scholar Finalists

Listed alphabetically by home counties are the 2003 Park Scholar finalists. Choose each county in the pull-down menu below.

Avery

John Frank Vance, son of Frank and Jean Vance. John will graduate from Avery County High School where he is: Student Body President, Co-Captain of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and a Captain of the Wrestling team. He also began a club for students that introduces them to volunteering at Cannon Memorial Hospital and is an active member in Crossnore First Baptist Youth Group. He plans to be a Pre-Med major.

Brunswick

Darryl Eugene Hardy, Jr. (DJ), son of Darryl and Teresa Hardy and Anita Clark of Bolivia, North Carolina. DJ will graduate from South Brunswick High School where he is president of the Student Government Association, secretary of Anchor Club and Teens Against Tobacco Use, and a student representative for the Brunswick County Board of Education. He is also a teen tutor at his local church, a member of Teen Court, and involved in his church choir and youth group. He plans to major in Communications and/or Marketing.

Buncombe

Amit Dorf, son of Bill and Janet Dorf. Amit will graduate from North Buncombe High School where he is captain of his varsity tennis team, president of the Earth Service Corps, and has been voted "Most Intelligent." He also volunteers for Mountin' Hopes, Mountain Housing, and Rabbit Ridge Preschool. He plans to double major in business and construction science and then make a for profit business to later fund his nonprofit service goals.

Burke

Paige McKenzie Roe, daughter of Thurman and Donna Roe. Paige will graduate from East Burke High School where she is the Captain of the Quiz Bowl team, Treasurer of the National Honor Society, and the Secretary of the Drama Club. She is also on the Board of Directors for the Burke County United Way, a member of the East Burke Chamber Singers, and an active member of Wilkes Grove Baptist Church. She plans to major in Biochemistry.

Elizabeth Ann Stuenkel, daughter of Eric and Jan Stuenke. Elizabeth will graduate from Freedom High School where she is the president of Science Olympiad, first chair flute in honors band, and a member of National Honor Society. She also is the president of her church youth group, has developed a website for a local mission station, and helps with the ESL program at a local elementary school. Elizabeth plans to major in Biomedical Engineering.

Cabarrus

Erin Lee Welch, daughter of Chris and Renda Welch. Erin will graduate from Northwest Cabarrus High School where she served as State Secretary for the North Carolina Association of Student Councils, president of the Math Club, and was chosen as an "Outstanding Senior." She also has been a member of Keystone Club for four years, is currently president of the City of Concord's Youth Council, and is an All-North Piedmont Conference volleyball player. She plans to major in the communications field with a concentration in broadcasting or public relations.

Carteret

Jennifer Emily Nicholls, daughter of Paul and Julia Nicholls. Jennifer will graduate from West Carteret High School where she is the president of National Honor Society, captain of the female cross-country team, and member of the track team. She also has initiated National Honor Society involvement with the local Domestic Violence Chapter, volunteered at a Latino Day Camp through Governor's School over the summer, and has been involved with local road races and triathlons. Jennifer plans to major in Pre-Dentistry or Exercise Science.

Zachery Blake Searcy, son of Greg and Barbara Searcy. Zachery will graduate from Croatan High School where he is: an active member of the National BETA Club, a National Merit Semifinalist, and has been voted "Most Dependable." He also has been a volunteer tutor at a local after-school program, a participant in environmental projects designed to clean up his community, and a member of a local student-led discussion group. Zachery plans to major in Nuclear Engineering.

Dax Thattacunnel Varkey, son of Rollo and Ann Varkey. Dax will graduate from Chatham Central High School where he is: Student Council President, Yearbook Editor, and Monogram Club Vice President. He also is a captain of his school's soccer team and was voted MVP of his Tennis Team. He plans to major in Biology.

Elizabeth Catherine Lee, daughter of Junius and Jean Lee. Elizabeth will graduate from Whiteville High School where she is: Vice President of Future Business Leaders of America, Secretary of the National Honor Society, and first position on the women's tennis team. She also tutors children at Whiteville Primary School, dances at Wanda's School of Dance and Gymnastics, and is an active participant of the Youth Group at First Presbyterian Church. She plans to major in Business Management.

Craven

Oliver W. Brooks, son of Wayne and Kathleen Brooks. Oliver will graduate from Arendell Parrott Academy where he is Vice President of the Student Government Association, President of the Spanish Club, and Captain of the Varsity Soccer Team. He also has been co-founder and President of the local American Red Cross Youth in Action group, a writer for the 1st Annual National Redcross.org Youth Site, and Captain of the Varsity Tennis and Swim teams. Oliver plans to major in Business Management.

Justin Thomas Harris, son of Jeff and Debbie Harris. Justin will graduate from Havelock High School where he is a member of the National Honor Society, captain of the Chemistry Team, and a catcher on the Varsity Baseball team. He also coaches Little League Baseball while beginning and operating a tape ministry at his church and playing lead trumpet in the high school jazz band. He plans to major in engineering, mathematics, or chemistry.

Cumberland


Jessica Kathleen Badger, daughter of Scott and Julie Badger. Jessica will graduate from Pine Forest High School where she is: President of the Junior Classical League; Editor of the Yearbook, Pifonoca; and Historian of the Academy of Scholars. She also is Secretary of the Parish Council at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church; a Religious Education Teacher; and a Red Cross Volunteer. She plans to major in Biology.

Christopher Lunsford, son of Billy and Christine Lunsford. Chris will graduate from Massey Hill Classical High School where he is the Treasurer of the Forensics/Debate Team and on the leadership team of Project 540, a civic engagement project He also tutors with the One-by-One tutoring program and plays piano and guitar with his church worship team. He plans to major in Mathematics.

Cameron Marcellus Lindsay, son of Craig and Deborah Lindsay. Cameron will graduate from Ledford High School where he is President of the Student Government Association, President of the Senior Class, and President of the Beta Club. He also is an Eagle School, Varsity Basketball player, and Sunday School teacher. He plans to major in Aerospace engineering.

Charles Ian Raulston, son of Keith and Resa Raulston. Ian will graduate from Thomasville High School where he is Co-Chief Marshal,the senior Treasurer of Student Council, and has been voted "Most Intellectual" by his senior class. He also has started on varsity football for three years, is an active member of the National Honor Society, and is an alumnus of the North Carolina Governor's School. He plans to major in Textile Engineering.

Durham

Ashley Dominique Forte, daughter of Ben and Joyce Forte. Ashley will graduate from Southern Durham High School where she is: head drum major for the Symphonic Soul of The South Marching Band, senior member of the National Honor Society, and Vice President of Southern's Concert Band. She also is a member of the Durham Youth Orchestra and works with the Question Why Youth Empowerment Centers to help prevent teen tobacco use. She plans to major in Chemical Engineering.

Esther Hong, daughter of Hoon and Pauline Hong. Esther will graduate from The North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics where she is a Residential Life Assistant and Yearbook Lay-out Editor. She has done volunteer work as a math tutor for elementary school students, as a guide for an international dance festival, and at the Special Olympics. She plans to major in Mechanical Engineering.

Sorell Sumner Massenburg, son of Sorell and Joyce Massenburg. Sorell will graduate from the N.C. School of Science and Math where he is a senior leader in Imago Dei, a Christian service club, he is a Residential Life Assistant and serves on his school's Hearing Board. He also serves as a tutor in a summer school for students with learning disabilities and participates in Astronomy research at his school.

John J. Rhoden, son of Joseph and Donna Rhoden. John completed his freshman and sophomore years at Wakefield High School and will graduate from the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics where he is a residential life assistant, member of the school math and Science Olympiad teams, and a National Merit semifinalist. He also is a member of the cross country and tennis teams, a hispanic community tutor, and an Eagle Scout. John plans to major in Biomedical Engineering.

Elysa Wan, daughter of Shawn and Christina Wan. Elysa will graduate from the North Carolina School of Science and Math where she is the Editor in Chief of the school newspaper, Copy Editor of the yearbook and President of the Amnesty International club. She is also the team leader of an astronomy research team which won 5th place in the national Siemens-Westinghouse Math: Science: Technology competition. She volunteers at the local soup kitchen, foodbank and hospital. Elysa plans to major in Mechanical Engineering.

Robert Scott Winton, son of Bob and Pam Winton. Scott will graduate from Carolina Friends School where he is: a member of the School Life Committee, a member of the Forth-Year Experience Committee and a regular member of Clerks. He also Writes for the Under Construction section of the Herald Sun and Plays varsity soccer and ultimate frisbee at school. He plans to major in Physics.

Sorell Sumner Massenburg, son of Sorell and Joyce Massenburg. Sorell will graduate from the N.C. School of Science and Math where he is a senior leader in Imago Dei, a Christian service club, he is a Residential Life Assistant and serves on his school's Hearing Board. He also serves as a tutor in a summer school for students with learning disabilities and participates in Astronomy research at his school.

Forsyth

Genevera Irene Allen, daughter of Norman and Debera Allen. Genevera will graduate from North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem where she is receiving an artists diploma in viola. She previously attended White Oak High School where she was President of Fellowship of Christian Atheletes and participated in Academic Derby, track and volleyball. Genevera was a Children's Bible School leader on a mission trip to Honduras, a Summer Art Assistant at the Onslow County Museum, and a Junior Guide at the Sturgeon City Science Institue. She plans to major in environmental engineering and history with a minor in music.

Jordan Seth O'Mara, son of Pat and Janice O'Mara. Jordan will graduate from RJ Reynolds High School where he is president of Inter Club Council, Captain of the General Knowledge Academic Team, and a member of the Superintendent's Student Advisory Council. He is also a member of the Math Academic Team, plays alto sax in the jazz and concert bands, and has helped the local Ronald McDonald House re-design their web-site. Jordan plans to major in Computer Science.

Susanna Katherine Rankin, daughter of Haywood and Sabine Rankin. Susanna will graduate from East Gaston High School where she was Chief Junior Marshal and is currently on the Board of Directors of the Interact Club and a Senator for the Student Council. She also is a Peer Educator in the AIDS Council of Gaston County, volunteers for the Schiele Museum Collections Department, and dances for the Durham School of Dance. She plans to major in Biology.

Guilford

Wade Allan Blackwell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wade A. Blackwell. Allan will graduate from Northeast Guilford High School where he is: treasurer of National Beta Club, member of National Honors Society, and co-president of Students Against Violence Everywhere Club. He also volunteers as a music mentor, assistant basketball coach at a local gym, and peer helper at his school. He plans to major in Business Management or Accounting.

Myles Dungan Bohon, son of Bruce and Sandy Bohon. Myles will graduate from Wesleyan Christian Academy where he is Co-President of Diakanos, a service club, and a member of the National Honor Society. He also is a member of the Boy Scouts of America where he has attained the rank of Eagle. He plans to major in Engineering or Mathematics.

Elizabeth Clair Compton, daughter of Beth and Chris Compton. Elizabeth will graduate from Southeast Guilford High School where she is active in the National Honor Society, member of the women's varsity basketball team, and is a member of the Science Club. She volunteers at Grace Community Soup Kitchen through her church, Southeast Baptist; and has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. She plans to major in Pre-Veterinary Medicine.

Joy Marie Johnson, daughter of Kenneth and Blondie Johnson. Joy will graduate from Grimsley Senior High School where she is: Vice-President of the Senior Class, Secretary of National Honors Society, and Captain of the Varsity Basketball Team. She also is a volunteer teacher in the Children's Ministry at her church and a summer volunteer at the Greensboro Urban Ministry. She plans to major in Computer Engineering.

Daniel Warren Mellinger III, son of Dan and Debbie Mellinger. Daniel will graduate from T.W. Andrews High School where he is a member of the varsity swim team and tennis team, was Co-Cheif Junior Marshall, and has been voted "Most Likely to Succeed." He also is active in his church youth group and is an Eagle Scout. Daniel plans to major in some type of Engineering.

Andrea Nicole Clarke, daughter of Kent and Sherry Clarke. Andrea will graduate from West Iredell High School where she is president of her senior class, president of the Junior Jaycess, and president of the History Club. She has been a volunteer with her churche's mission team, has worked with Fifth Street Ministries, and has volunteered with the Special Olympics for over five years. She plans to major in biology.

Christina Jean Craig, daughter of Steve and Carol Craig. Christie will graduate from Mooresville Senior High School where she is Captain of the Varsity Cheerleading squad, Co-director of Committed Young Christians, and Carrousel Princess Representative. She also is active in summer mission work nationally and internationally, participates in local missions with her youth group, and is a volunteer in several service organizations. She plans to major in business or child psychology.

Stephanie Lauren Canady, daughter of Steve and Gwen Canady. Stephanie will graduate from Clayton High School where she is: President of the Student Body, President of the National Honor Society, and Co-Captain of the Varsity Girls Tennis Team. She also initiated a chapter of the Students Against Violence Everywhere (S.A.V.E.) Club at Clayton High School, participates in mission opportunities through her church, and sings in the Christian girl's quartet "Holy Water." She plans to major in Communications.

James "Stockton" Perry, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jimbo Perry. Stockton will graduate from Kinston High School where he is president of the Student Body, an academic marshall and a five varsity sport athlete. He has been a Spanish translator at the local community health clinic and a volunteer at the Salvation Army After School Program. Stockton is considering a career in medicine.

Lang Russell Hardison Jr., son of Barbara Hardison and the late Lang Hardison. Lang will graduate from Roanoke High School where he is President of the Future Business Leaders of America, North Carolina's State Vice-President of the Beta Club, and captain of the tennis team. He also volunteered during hurricane Floyd and helps annually with the Relay for Life. He plans to major in Computer Engineering.

Remi Georges Loiseau, son of Gerard and Jennifer Loiseau. Remi will graduate from Charlotte Country Day School where he is: vice-president for the French Club, vice-president for International Thespian Society, and has been Stage Managing theatre performances for eight years. He also is an active member of St Johns Episcopal Church’s youth having served as a delegate for the Diocese Convention, has helped organize and participated in two mission trips to Costa Rica, and is planning to return again for a third and forth trip this summer. He plans to major in Engineering.

Erin Kyle Mizelle,daughter of Kenny Mizelle and Bob and Jeannie Sidi. Erin will graduate from Hopewell High School where she is editor-in-chief of the school newspaper, president of Mu Alpha Theta, a Math Honor Society, and currently ranked first in her class. Additionally, she is a member of Lake Norman Juniorettes, a community service club, maintains a part-time job at McAlister's Deli, and is a district winner in DECA, a marketing education organization. Erin plans to major in accounting.

Mary Beth Usher, daughter of Bob and Antoinette Usher. Mary Beth will graduate from Charlotte Catholic High School where she is co-captain of the Science Olympiad Team, co-founder and coordinator of a Teen Health and Wellness Group, and a member of the Women's Varsity Cross Country Team. She also serves as a Peer Minister at her church and is actively involved in Girl Scouts as a Gold Award recepient and a Delegate to the Hornet's Nest Board of Directors. Mary Beth plans to major in Biochemistry and Sociology.

Moore

Samantha Christine Dixon, daughter of Mike and Chris Dixon. Samantha will graduate from Pinecrest High School where she is a member of the National Honors Society, a National Merit Semi-Finalist, and is highly involved with the Basketball Boosters Club- setting up and running concessions, and creating the Pinecrest Basketball homepage. She has also received a perfect score of 800 on the verbal portion of the SAT with a 770 on the math. Sam also is an assistant CCD teacher at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church as well as the first female acolyte there. Samantha plans to major in Chemical Engineering.

Richard Kenan Lauchlin Bethune, son of Dick and Janet Bethune. Richard will graduate from The McCallie School where he is: a leader of the school's Habitat for Humanity Chapter, leader of the Boys and Girls Club mentors, and President of the Young Republicans. He also won an Honors Scholar merit scholarship to McCallie, is a National Merit Semifinalist, and won a Japan-America Friendship scholarship to study in Japan this past summer. He plans to major in economics and double minor in Chinese and Japanese.

Forrest Brock Hinton, son of Douglas Hinton and Angela Pope. Forrest will graduate from Southern Nash Senior High where he is: President of the Southern Nash BETA Club, Captain of the Varsity State Champion Quiz Bowl Team, and Vice-President of his senior class. He also has helped in the creation a middle school tutoring program, volunteers at his church as a children's leader, and has received four superlatives: "Most Likely to Succeed," "Most Courteous," "Most Studious," and "Most Dependable." He plans to major in mathematics and physics.

Michelle Frances Meglin, daughter of Allen and Nancy Meglin. Michelle will graduate from New Hanover High School where she is: Yearbook Editor and a member of the Varsity Volleyball and Soccer teams. She also is an officer of the French Club, a member of the National Honors Society, and a Domestic Violence Shelter Voluteer.

Alissa Jane Respet, daughter of Richard and Kathy Respet. Alissa will graduate from John T. Hoggard High School where she is secretary of the Latin Club and participates in the varsity Math and Science Olympiad Teams. She also assists in leading her church Youth Group, tutors peers in both math and science, and volunteers with the Adopt-a-Grandparent program. Alissa plans to major in Biomedical Engineering.

Stephen Daniel Sasser, son of Larry and Pamela Sasser. Stephen will graduate from E.A. Laney High School where he is: President of the Vocal Department, Parliamentarian of the National Honor Society, and Captain of the Soccer Team. He also is an Eagle Scout, is in his church choir, and participates in Meals on Wheels. He plans to major in Pre-Med.

Julia Hall Wessell, daughter of John and Jan Wessell. Julia will graduate from New Hanover High School where she is: a member of the Beta Club, National Honor Society,and Key Club and plays varsity soccer. She also is the moderator of her youth group and has been a volunteer in the ESL Program in Pender County. She plans to major in social sciences.

Robin Eleanor Abell, daughter of Dennis and Shirley Abel. Robin will graduate from White Oak High School where she is Senior Drum Major of the Marching Vikings, Vice President of the National Honor Society, and a WOHS Marshal. She also serves at the Salvation Army as an SAT Scholar, and is a member of the WOHS math team and swim team. Robin plans to major in Secondary Mathematics Education.

Kelly Lynn Robertson, daughter of Roger and Donna Robertson. Kelly will graduate from D.H. Conley High School where she is: president of Mu Alpha Theta, a Math Honor Society, co-captain of the Quiz Bowl team, and co-president of the French Honor Society. She also is the captain of a Relay for Life team and is on the Leadership Team for Project 540, a student action group. She plans to major in Geology.

Samuel Allen Slater, son of David and Patty Slater. Sam will graduate from Woodberry Forest School where he is a Prefect, student Ropes Course Instructor, and Tour Guide Coordinator. He also on the Varsity Tennis Team, a member of the school's a cappella group, The Dozen, and a competitor in the annual National Japan Bowl. He plans to major in History.

Kenneth Ball, son of James and Carole Ball. Kenneth will graduate from North Rowan High School where he is: Executive Treasurer of the Student Government, a captain on the soccer team, and a member of the National Honors Society. He also attended Governor's School in Mathematics this summer and is an Eagle Scout. He plans to major in Aerospace Engineering.

Kenneth Wesley Overton, son of Kent and Jo Ann Overton. Wes will graduate from Albemarle High School where he is a member of the National Honor Society, National Beta Club, and served as Chief Marshall for the 2002 graduation ceremony. He is also an Eagle Scout, an active member at Central United Methodist Church, and attended the 2002 session of the North Carolina Governor's School. He plans to major in engineering.

Emily Ann Gifford, daughter of Tommy and Melody Gifford. Emily will graduate from Elkin High School where she is the Senior Class Treasurer, the Parliamentarian of HOSA, and the Secretary of Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She also plays on the EHS Varsity Basketball and Track teams and dances at Dance Upstairs Academy of Performing Arts. She plans to major in medicine.

Sarah Melissa Smith, daughter of Bobby and Treva Smith. Sarah will graduate from North Surry High School where she is President of the National Honor Society, Treasurer of the Senior Class, and Treasurer of the Fellowship of Christian Students. She is also a member of Ivy Green Baptist Church and the Pine Ridge Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Sarah plans to major in Zoology.

Cory Matthew Blankenship, son of Sharon Blankenship. Cory will graduate from Cherokee High School where he is Chairman of the Youth in Government Committee and a member of the CHS Beta Club. He also is a member of the Cherokee High School Marching Band. He plans to major in Political Sciences.

Austin Cole James, son of Roger and Cindy James. Austin will graduate from Forest Hills High School where he is Student Body President, editor of the school newspaper, and a leader of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He attended Governor's School, is an All-Conference soccer player and a varsity baseball player, and has volunteered for the Union County Special Olympics. Austin plans to major in education or communications.

Jason Paul Schaefer, son of Paul and Barbara Schaefer. Jason will graduate from Weddington High School where he is treasurer of the Beta Club, treasurer of the German Club, and a member in the National Honor Society. He also works as a salesperson at a music store, is a music tutor, and has taught Sunday School to kindergarten children. He plans to major in Aerospace Engineering.

Mycah Jocey Wilson, daughter of Anita Scott Wilson and Michael Wilson. Mycah will graduate from Monroe High School where she is the Student Body President, Treasurer of National Honors Society and has been voted "Most Likely to Succeed". She has been a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, the United Way and the American Red Cross. Mycah plans to major in Biomedical Engineering.

Mitchell Scott Danforth, son of Jeff and Debbie Danforth. Mitch will graduate from Enloe High School where he is: the Student Body President as a member of the Executive Council, a Team Captain as a member of the Men's Swimming and Diving Team, and a Student Speaker and Student Tour Guide as a school representative. He also serves as a member of the High School Ministry Team at Providence Baptist Church and works as a Swim Coach, Lifeguard, and Swim Lesson Instructor at his neighborhood swim club during the summer. He plans to major in Business Management with a concentration in Operations and Supply Chain Management.

James Peyton Hassinger, son of James and Harriet Hassinger. Peyton will graduate from Needham B. Broughton High School where he is president of National Spanish Honor Society, Vice President of Outdoor Adventure Club, and Vice President of Key Club. He also has volunteered with Cary EMS and the Oriental Dinghy Club. He plans to major in Biochemistry.

Esther Hong, daughter of Hoon and Pauline Hong. Esther will graduate from The North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics where she is a Residential Life Assistant and Yearbook Lay-out Editor. She has done volunteer work as a math tutor for elementary school students, as a guide for an international dance festival, and at the Special Olympics. She plans to major in Mechanical Engineering.

Caitlin Sara Kelleher, daughter of Brian and Janet Kelleher. Caitlin will graduate from Broughton High School where she is Director's Assistant of Carolina Spirit Showchoir, President of Crafts for a Cause, and Records-Keeper for the National Honor Society. She also volunteers at the Mayview Community Learning Center, is co-moderator of her church's youth council, and is a member of the National Charity League. She plans to major in engineering.

Joel David Mikkelsen, son of Robert and Susan Mikkelsen. Joel will graduate from Cary High School where he is: the president of the Spanish Honor Society, the Vice-President of the Calculus Club, and the Youth Governor for the state of NC. He also is an Eagle Scout, a member the Cary High School chamber choir, and a swimmer on the school swim team. He plans to major in Chemistry.

John J. Rhoden, son of Joseph and Donna Rhoden. John completed his freshman and sophomore years at Wakefield High School and will graduate from the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics where he is a residential life assistant, member of the school math and Science Olympiad teams, and a National Merit semifinalist. He also is a member of the cross country and tennis teams, a hispanic community tutor, and an Eagle Scout. John plans to major in Biomedical Engineering.

Danielle Hope Speller, daughter of Daniel and Lenora Speller. Danielle will graduate from Millbrook High School where she is: Secretary of the Physics Club, a member of the National Honor Society and a clarinetist in the Millbrook High School Symphonic Wind Ensemble. She also serves as Drama director for the Cup of Salvation Deliverance Church Worship and Fine Arts Ministry, is a member of the CSDC Celebration Choir and takes clarinet and viola lessons from the Raleigh Community Music School. She plans to major in physics.

Anita Gopal Unnithan, daughter of Mohan and Suchitra Unnithan. Anita will graduate from Apex High School where she is: Vice President of Key Club, the Vice President of French Club, and a member of National Honor Society. She also attended Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics, a state sponsored program at UNC-W, has been a Junior Volunteer at Western Wake Medical Center during the past two summers, and has received the National Federation of Music Clubs Gold Cup playing the piano. She plans to major in Premedicine.

Saket R. Vora, son of Ramesh and Swati Vora. Saket will graduate from Green Hope High School where he is: a member of Science Olympiad, technical editor of the Literary Journal, and founder of the Physics Club. He also is a member of the National Honor Society and Triangle Gujurati Association Youth Group. He plans to major in Electrical Engineering.

Mary Margaret Williard, daughter of Grant and Laura Williard. Mary will graduate from William G. Enloe High School. She is a member of the Youth Councils of White Memorial Presbyterian Church and New Hope Presbytery, volunteers as a tutor at Mayview Community Learning Center, and studies piano. Mary plans to major in Physics.

Wayne

Elizabeth Diana Moore, daughter of Carlton and Rosemary Moore. Elizabeth will graduate from Southern Wayne High School where she is president of the National Honor Society, Secretary of the Future Business Leaders of America, and Treasurer of the Senior Class. She also has been a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, Wayne County's Teen Court Program, and is the Teen Class Sunday School Teacher at Friendly Holiness Church. She plans to major in Mathematics Education.

Wilson

Justin Zadock Cobb, son of Terri and Warren Cobb. Justin will graduate from Wilson Fike High School where he is vice-president of the National Honor Society, President of the Science Honor Society, and an officer of the Spanish Club. He is also on the football team and is captain of the wrestling team. He attended Governor's School this past summer in the area of math. He enjoys tutoring in Spanish, Math, and Biology. Justin plans to major in Biology.
