Names of Murder-Suicide Shooting Victims Released

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

North Carolina State University Campus Police have released the names of two graduate students who were killed in a murder-suicide that occurred at about 5:15 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, on NC State's campus near Carmichael Gym. The victims are Lili Wang, 31, of 4704 Delta Vision Court, Raleigh, and Richard Borrelli Anderson, 49, of 209 Ramblewood Drive, Raleigh. Both were students in the College of Engineering.

Police believe Anderson shot Wang and then turned the gun on himself. No one else was injured in the shooting.

"This was not a random incident, and we believe it poses no danger to others," said Campus Police Chief Tom Younce. He says the handgun and a note written by Anderson were recovered at the scene. The note suggests the shooting stemmed from a personal disagreement.

An NC State Campus Police officer was in the vicinity when the gunshots were heard and was on the scene within a minute. Campus police have worked closely with the SBI to conduct the investigation.

Concerned parents or students can call (919) 515-5916 for updates. Students who wish to speak with a counselor can call the Student Health Services Counseling Center at (919) 515-2423. Students wishing to request an escort from Campus Police should call (919) 515-3000.

"Our hearts go out to the families of these two members of our campus community," said Chancellor Marye Anne Fox. "I want to reassure our students, employees and their families that safety is a priority at NC State and will continue to be of utmost importance to Campus Police and the administration."
