FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Chuck Horne, a 1973 textile technology graduate of the North Carolina State University College of Textiles, has been awarded the 2002 Distinguished Alumni Award. Horne is president of Hornwood Inc., a Lilesville, N.C., company that specializes in knit specialty fabrics.

Horne's contributions to the College of Textiles are numerous. He is a member of the board of directors for the North Carolina Textile Foundation, a foundation that annually aids and supports education and research at the College of Textiles. In 2001, the NCTF contributed in excess of $1.3 million to the College of Textiles for various programs. He is also a member of the Centennial Scholarship Committee that awards approximately 10 incoming students per year with a $12,500 scholarship and a $7,500 enrichment fund. This scholarship allows the College of Textiles to recruit the best students in the nation. He also hosts training and development each year for the new Centennial Scholars.
