Horne
Named NC State College of Textiles Distinguished Alumnus

Chuck
Horne, a 1973 textile technology graduate of the
North
Carolina State University College of Textiles,
has been awarded the 2002 Distinguished Alumni
Award. Horne is president of Hornwood Inc., a
Lilesville, N.C., company that specializes in
knit specialty fabrics.
Horne's
contributions to the College of Textiles are numerous.
He is a member of the board of directors for the
North Carolina Textile Foundation, a foundation
that annually aids and supports education and
research at the College of Textiles. In 2001,
the NCTF contributed in excess of $1.3 million
to the College of Textiles for various programs.
He is also a member of the Centennial Scholarship
Committee that awards approximately 10 incoming
students per year with a $12,500 scholarship and
a $7,500 enrichment fund. This scholarship allows
the College of Textiles to recruit the best students
in the nation. He also hosts training and development
each year for the new Centennial Scholars.

"Chuck
Horne has been one of the strongest supporters for the
College of Textiles for many years," said Dr. A.
Blanton Godfrey, dean of the College of Textiles. "He
has been an outstanding leader for the North Carolina
Textile Foundation and has made significant contributions
to the college scholarship committee. In addition, for
the past several years Chuck has opened his company
doors and allowed our Centennial Scholars to participate
in exciting and stimulating leadership training at his
facilities."
Horne's
other professional accomplishments include being named
the Anson County Industrialist of the Year in 1994 and
All State School Board Member in 2000, and winning the
Governors Award for Waste Reduction in 1995. Horne is
also a trustee at Pfeiffer University; a member of the
Wadesboro Rotary Club and Anson County Board of Education;
past president of the Anson County Chamber of Commerce;
vice president of the Anson Economic Development Corporation;
and vice chair for the Anson County Job Ready Council.
