Poet John Balaban to Give Reading at National Humanities Center

What: John Balaban, professor of English and Poet-in-Residence at North Carolina State University, will read from Spring Essence, his nationally acclaimed translation of the poetry of Ho Xuan Huong, one of the foremost poets in Vietnam's literary tradition. Spring Essence is the first English translation of Huong's poetry. Balaban will be accompanied by Ngo Thanh Nhan, research associate at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences of New York University, who will play the 16-string dan tranh, the classical zither of Vietnam. Nhan is a computational linguist who was the first to print the ancient script of Vietnam, called Nom.
