14 NC State University Students to Receive Military Commissions

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Fourteen North Carolina State University students are set to receive commissions in the U.S. armed forces at a joint Air Force-Army-Navy-Marine Corps ceremony at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, in the Grand Ballroom of the Talley Student Center.

Eight students will receive U.S. Navy commissions, four students will receive U.S. Air Force commissions, one student will receive a U.S. Army commission and one student will receive a U.S. Marine Corps commission.

The keynote address will be delivered by Major General William E. Ingram, Jr. of the North Carolina National Guard. Major General Ingram was appointed the Adjutant General, North Carolina National Guard, in July 2001. He guides the formulation, development and implementation of all programs and policies affecting the North Carolina Army and Air National Guard.

General Ingram earned a B.S. degree in textile chemistry from NC State. He received his commission in 1972 from the Officer Candidate School, North Carolina Military Academy at Fort Bragg, N.C., completing the program as Distinguished Graduate.

Oaths of office will be administered by Lt. Col. Michael Wawrzyniak, professor of military science; Col. Joseph Fitzpatrick, professor of aerospace studies; and Capt. Dennis Haines, professor of naval science. Welcoming remarks will be delivered by Chancellor Marye Anne Fox.

The 14 soon-to-be-commissioned officers are expected to receive bachelor's degrees earlier in the day at the NC State Commencement ceremonies. ROTC cadets receive commissions upon completion of their degree requirements.
