State University Students to Receive Military Commissions
FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Fourteen
North Carolina State University students are set to
receive commissions in the U.S. armed forces at a joint
Air Force-Army-Navy-Marine Corps ceremony at 4 p.m.
Wednesday, Dec. 18, in the Grand Ballroom of the Talley
Student Center.
Eight students will receive U.S. Navy commissions, four
students will receive U.S. Air Force commissions, one
student will receive a U.S. Army commission and one
student will receive a U.S. Marine Corps commission.
The
keynote address will be delivered by Major General William
E. Ingram, Jr. of the North Carolina National Guard.
Major General Ingram was appointed the Adjutant General,
North Carolina National Guard, in July 2001. He guides
the formulation, development and implementation of all
programs and policies affecting the North Carolina Army
and Air National Guard.
General
Ingram earned a B.S. degree in textile chemistry from
NC State. He received his commission in 1972 from the
Officer Candidate School, North Carolina Military Academy
at Fort Bragg, N.C., completing the program as Distinguished
Graduate.
Oaths of office will be administered by Lt. Col. Michael
Wawrzyniak, professor of military science; Col. Joseph
Fitzpatrick, professor of aerospace studies; and Capt.
Dennis Haines, professor of naval science. Welcoming
remarks will be delivered by Chancellor Marye Anne Fox.
The
14 soon-to-be-commissioned officers are expected to
receive bachelor's degrees earlier in the day at the
NC State Commencement ceremonies. ROTC cadets receive
commissions upon completion of their degree requirements.
