The annual First-Year Student Advocate
Awards were instituted to recognize individuals and
departments or offices contributing distinguished service
to first-year students at NC State.
The First
Year College at NC State began serving first-year
students in 1995. The program encourages first-year
students to become involved, committed and successful
members of the university. The college is particularly
suited to students who prefer a year of general study
accompanied with major and career guidance, which enhances
students' abilities to make careful yet confident decisions
determining their college future. First Year College
also seeks to fully immerse first-year students in the
many academic, social and cultural opportunities available
at NC State.
