Named Executive Director of NC State Alumni Association

Dr.
Charles L. “Lennie” Barton, executive
director of the North Carolina Textile Foundation,
assistant to the dean and director of development
in the College
of Textiles at North Carolina State University,
has been named associate vice chancellor for alumni
relations and executive director of the NC
State Alumni Association.
Terry G. Wood, vice chancellor
for university advancement, announced the appointment
on Tuesday, Feb. 11. Barton, an NC State alumnus
with 25 years of service to the university and
the College of Textiles, will start his new job
on March 1. Barton earned a bachelor’s degree
in textile management in 1977, a master’s
degree in business in 1980 and a doctorate in
education administration in 1986, all from NC
State.

Citing Barton’s quarter-century
tenure at the university, Wood said Barton will provide
leadership in building an engaged and effective alumni
relations program. “Lennie brings a keen understanding
of NC State’s advancement activities and priorities,”
said Wood, “and an impressive network of alumni
and friends.”
Prior to his current duties, Barton
also served as director of development for the N.C.
Textile Foundation and the College of Textiles, and
placement director and director of student services
for the college. As executive director, he oversees
the daily operations of a $30 million private foundation
as well as ongoing development activities.
He served as chairman of the subcommittee
on academics for the Faculty Athletic Council from 1994
to 2000, has been a member of the N.C. Association of
Colleges and Employers since 1986, and served as that
organization’s president from 1994 to 1995.
Barton also chaired the University Open
House Committee in 1987, and served as a member of that
committee from 1979 to 1989.
