FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dr. Charles L. “Lennie” Barton, executive director of the North Carolina Textile Foundation, assistant to the dean and director of development in the College of Textiles at North Carolina State University, has been named associate vice chancellor for alumni relations and executive director of the NC State Alumni Association.

Terry G. Wood, vice chancellor for university advancement, announced the appointment on Tuesday, Feb. 11. Barton, an NC State alumnus with 25 years of service to the university and the College of Textiles, will start his new job on March 1. Barton earned a bachelor’s degree in textile management in 1977, a master’s degree in business in 1980 and a doctorate in education administration in 1986, all from NC State.

Citing Barton’s quarter-century tenure at the university, Wood said Barton will provide leadership in building an engaged and effective alumni relations program. “Lennie brings a keen understanding of NC State’s advancement activities and priorities,” said Wood, “and an impressive network of alumni and friends.”

Prior to his current duties, Barton also served as director of development for the N.C. Textile Foundation and the College of Textiles, and placement director and director of student services for the college. As executive director, he oversees the daily operations of a $30 million private foundation as well as ongoing development activities.

He served as chairman of the subcommittee on academics for the Faculty Athletic Council from 1994 to 2000, has been a member of the N.C. Association of Colleges and Employers since 1986, and served as that organization’s president from 1994 to 1995.

Barton also chaired the University Open House Committee in 1987, and served as a member of that committee from 1979 to 1989.
