NC State Leaders of the Pack Announced During Homecoming

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The recent “Red Wolf Rising” homecoming celebrations at North Carolina State University featured more than pep rallies and alumni events. Current students Sarah King of Raleigh and Mital Patel of Morehead City were chosen as the 2003 Leaders of the Pack for their personal and academic achievements.

King, a 20-year-old junior majoring in business management, and Patel, a 20-year-old senior majoring in computer science, were recognized along with four other finalists during halftime ceremonies at NC State’s homecoming game against Texas Tech on Saturday, Sept. 20, at Carter-Finley Stadium.

King is the daughter of Sara King of Vernon Hill, Va., and William King of Raleigh. She graduated from William G. Enloe High School. She has received the “RA of the Year Award,” serves as chapter president of the National Society of College Scholars, and is a member of the Scholar’s Council.

Patel is the son of Mahendrakumar and Sharmistha Patel of 220 Brandywine Boulevard in Morehead City. He is a graduate of West Carteret High School. He is active in student government, is a service leadership consultant, and serves as publicity chair for NC State’s South Asian Student Organization.

The Leader of the Pack Program replaces the traditional homecoming queen and king contest and recognizes two students who make outstanding contributions to NC State in the areas of leadership, scholarship and community service. Finalists for the honor are selected based on grade-point average, a personal interview, extracurricular activities, an essay on leadership and student-body vote.

Each winner receives a $1,000 scholarship provided by NC State’s Student Government Association.
