Named CHASS Distinguished Alumna

Sandra Lee Harding |
Dr. Sandra Lee Harding, dean of the
faculty of business at the Queensland University of
Technology in Brisbane, Australia, has been named Distinguished
Alumna of North Carolina State University’s College
of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHASS).
An internationally recognized scholar,
Harding is at the forefront of demonstrating that business
schools can make substantial scholarly and applied-research
contributions to quality of life and social welfare.
At the Queensland University of Technology, Harding
has developed programs to enhance research productivity
of her faculty, strengthen educational programs and
encourage enterprise development in Australia.
Harding led the founding of an endowed
Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies in Australia.
She also serves as president of the Australian Council
of Business Deans.
“Sandra is an outstanding example
of achievement, both in her professional life and her
community life,” said CHASS Dean Linda P. Brady.
“She embodies all that we strive to instill in
our students – concern for the world around them,
commitment to community and dedication to meaningful
work.”
In addition to her professional accomplishments,
Harding is committed to her community. She is a member
of the Aged Care Working Party for the Brisbane Diocese,
at the invitation of the Catholic Archbishop of Brisbane.
She holds a number of appointments with various organizations,
including the Brisbane Transport Advisory Board and
the Queensland Small Business Advisory Council. She
is chairman of the Australian Statistics Advisory Council,
and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company
Directors.
Harding received a bachelor’s
degree from Australian National University and a master’s
degree in public administration from the University
of Queensland, Brisbane. She earned her doctorate in
sociology from NC State.
