Dr. Sandra Lee Harding, dean of the faculty of business at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia, has been named Distinguished Alumna of North Carolina State University’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHASS).

An internationally recognized scholar, Harding is at the forefront of demonstrating that business schools can make substantial scholarly and applied-research contributions to quality of life and social welfare. At the Queensland University of Technology, Harding has developed programs to enhance research productivity of her faculty, strengthen educational programs and encourage enterprise development in Australia.

Harding led the founding of an endowed Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies in Australia. She also serves as president of the Australian Council of Business Deans.

“Sandra is an outstanding example of achievement, both in her professional life and her community life,” said CHASS Dean Linda P. Brady. “She embodies all that we strive to instill in our students – concern for the world around them, commitment to community and dedication to meaningful work.”

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Harding is committed to her community. She is a member of the Aged Care Working Party for the Brisbane Diocese, at the invitation of the Catholic Archbishop of Brisbane. She holds a number of appointments with various organizations, including the Brisbane Transport Advisory Board and the Queensland Small Business Advisory Council. She is chairman of the Australian Statistics Advisory Council, and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Harding received a bachelor’s degree from Australian National University and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Queensland, Brisbane. She earned her doctorate in sociology from NC State.
