State Student Magazine, Newspaper Win National Awards

IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Two
North Carolina State University student publications
– the literary magazine Windhover
and the newspaper Technician
– won national awards from the Associated Collegiate
Press (ACP) and College Media Advisers (CMA). The honors
were announced at a recent convention in Dallas.
Windhover
won the prestigious Pacemaker Award, the highest award
given by the Associated Collegiate Press. All ACP magazine
members are eligible to compete in the national Pacemaker
competitions.
Student
Emily Townley edited the 2002 Windhover; Fran Dickenson
served as adviser.
In
the “Best of Show” competition, an on-site
contest open to those schools in attendance at the national
convention, the Technician placed fourth in the “Newspaper
Special Edition: Daily” category, for a newspaper
supplement. The paper was edited by students Carie Windham
and Thushan Amarasiriwardena.
In
addition, Technician and Windhover placed in five categories
in the national "Best of Collegiate Design"
competition by the CMA. Entries were judged by some
of the nation's top professional designers. The categories
and NC State student winners were:

- Nameplate/standing
head, Matthew Pelland, second place
- Magazine
cover, Geoff Halber, first place
- Contents
page/spread, Geoff Halber, first place
- Feature
