of NC State Library Host Pulitzer-Winning Photographers
FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Annie
Wells and Stephanie Welsh, both recipients of the Pulitzer
Prize for photography, will be the guests of the Friends
of the Library of North Carolina State University at
3:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5, in the Erdahl-Cloyd Theater
of D.H. Hill Library on campus. The event, which will
feature slide shows of the photographers’ award-winning
work, is free and open to the public.
Wells received the Pulitzer Prize in 1997 for her photograph
of a fireman rescuing a young girl from a raging flood
in California. She currently works as a photographer
and photo editor for the Los Angeles Times. Her work
is part of the permanent collection in the National
Museum for Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C.
Welsh won the Pulitzer Prize in 1996 for feature photography
of a female circumcision rite in Kenya. She worked as
a photojournalist, most recently as a staff photographer
for the Palm Beach Post, until 1999. She is now a practicing
nurse-midwife in private practice. Her work is part
of the permanent collections of the Richard F. Brush
Art Gallery at St. Lawrence University and the Newseum
