Senior Design Day Unveils Gee-Whiz Gadgetry
The Department of Electrical and Computer
Engineering at North Carolina State University will
hold a Senior Design Day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on
Thursday, Dec. 4, in the Talley Student Center on campus.
About 150 electrical and computer engineering students
will showcase projects from their senior design project
course, including wall- and ceiling-crawling robots,
a device to allow divers in murky water to communicate
with each other, and a control system for fire retardants
dropped from aircraft during wildfires.
Media coverage of the event is invited.
Other project topics include cellular/wireless communications,
aids for disabled children and a lightning-strike detector.
Five projects from the Engineering Entrepreneurs
Program (EEP) will also be on display. These projects
are virtual start-up companies formed by senior engineering
students. They are joined in their endeavor to develop
a prototype product by undergraduate collaborators
from engineering and other disciplines and engage in
all aspects of product development. The students are
also mentored by professional product developers and
entrepreneurs.
One of the EEP prototype products on display will
be an autonomous robot that can fight fires without
human intervention
