NC State Leaders of the Pack Announced During Homecoming

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

During homecoming festivities at North Carolina State University, Robby Moorefield of Atlanta, Ga., and Erin Welch of Concord, N.C., were chosen as the 2004 Leaders of the Pack for their personal and academic achievements.

Moorefield, a junior majoring in chemical engineering and textile chemistry, and Welch, a sophomore majoring in communication, were recognized along with four other finalists during halftime ceremonies at NC State’s homecoming football game against Wake Forest University on Saturday, Oct. 2, at Carter-Finley Stadium.

The Leader of the Pack Program replaces the traditional homecoming queen and king contest and recognizes two students who make outstanding contributions to NC State in the areas of leadership, scholarship and community service. Finalists for the honor are selected based on grade-point average, a personal interview, extracurricular activities, an essay on leadership and student-body vote.

Each winner receives a $1,000 scholarship sponsored by NC State’s Student Government Association; NCSU Bookstores; the Younts Leadership Fund; the NC State Alumni Association; the Center for Student Leadership, Ethics and Public Service; and the Department of Athletics.

The other four finalists for Leader of the Pack are listed below:

North Carolina
CHARLOTTE – Jennifer Crutchfield, a junior majoring in biochemistry and pre-med.
DURHAM – Olu Orelaja, a junior majoring in business management and Spanish.
GOLDSBORO – Brandi Hinnant, a junior majoring in mass communication and English education.
RALEIGH – Paul Mobley, a junior majoring in mechanical engineering.
