New NC State Chancellor to Be Introduced at Welcoming Event Friday

North Carolina State University’s 13th chancellor will be introduced at a welcoming event for the campus community at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8, in the College of Textiles Atrium on NC State’s Centennial Campus. Media coverage is invited.

The new chancellor will be selected by the University of North Carolina Board of Governors earlier in the day on Friday, upon the recommendation of UNC President Molly Corbett Broad. The new chancellor will make brief remarks at the Board of Governor’s meeting in Chapel Hill at about 12:30 p.m., but the NC State event at 2 p.m. will be the new chancellor’s first opportunity to address faculty, staff, students and alumni, and to field reporters’ questions.

Biographical information about the new chancellor will be available at the afternoon event. A live Webcast of the welcoming event, a downloadable photograph of the new chancellor and other press materials will be available online. The information can also be accessed by clicking on a “latest news” link from the NC State home page.

The new chancellor replaces Dr. Marye Anne Fox, who left the university in July; Dr. Robert Barnhardt has served as interim chancellor since that time. A search committee appointed by NC State’s Board of Trustees recruited and interviewed candidates over the course of the past five months. The search committee forwarded the names of several top candidates to the Board of Trustees, and the trustees in turn forwarded three names to President Broad.
