Education Leader to Address Teacher Preparation Challenges at Friday Forum

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dr. David Imig, president and CEO of the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (AACTE), will present “Teacher Education: Meeting High Expectations in Difficult Times,” on Friday, Nov. 12, from 3 to 5 p.m. in 216 Poe Hall on the North Carolina State University Campus.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will kick off American Education Week on Nov. 14-20, and is the second Friday Forum held this year by The William and Ida Friday Institute for Educational Innovation.

Dr. Imig, a respected leader in higher education, has served AACTE for 35 years, five of those as CEO. His presentation will focus on No Child Left Behind legislation and its effects on teacher preparation.

The No Child Left Behind Act was signed into law on Jan. 8, 2002. It is designed to improve student achievement in elementary and secondary schools in the United States by emphasizing four principles: increased accountability; flexibility and local control for states, school districts and schools in using federal funds; more choices for parents of children from disadvantaged backgrounds; and utilizing teaching methods that have been demonstrated to be the most effective.

The forum is sponsored by the Friday Institute and the Bettye MacPhail-Wilcox Administrative Technology Fund. The purpose of the forums is to bring educators and the general public together to address educational issues that have a widespread impact.
