Shelton Forum to Focus on Enhancing Leadership Through Practical Applications

More than 30 leaders in government, business and education will join Gen. Hugh Shelton in providing practical insights on leadership at the third annual General Henry Hugh Shelton Leadership Forum, which will be held from 8:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, at North Carolina State University’s Jane S. McKimmon Center.

At the forum, keynote speaker Jim Kouzes, co-author of “The Leadership Challenge” and “Academic Administrator’s Guide to Exemplary Leadership,” Connie Stevens, actress and entrepreneur, and August Busch IV, president of Anheuser-Busch Inc., will give their unique perspectives on providing leadership and leading complex organizations.

Shelton, an NC State alumnus and retired chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will lead a session with Stevens and Busch about practical applications for leading exemplary organizations in the Shelton Seminar from 8:45 to 10 a.m. He will also moderate a session from 10:15 to 11:45 a.m. that will focus on “Exemplary Leadership: Connoisseurs for Leading Change in Science, Technology and Engineering Organizations.”

Kouzes will discuss his five practices of effective leadership during his keynote address, “The Leadership Challenge: How to Get Extraordinary Things Done in Organizations,” at noon.

Media coverage of the forum is invited. The McKimmon Center is located at the corner of Western Boulevard and Gorman Street; free parking will be available in the McKimmon Center lot. Media are asked to sign in at the registration booth in the McKimmon Center lobby. Gen. Shelton’s availability for media interviews will be limited.
