Open for NC State’s Encore Center 2005 Courses,
Trips

North Carolina
State University’s Encore Center
for Lifelong Enrichment, which offers a variety of
non-credit programs for adults aged 50 and older, has
begun registration for its 2005 courses, trips and
events.
Forty short
courses are scheduled, including new offerings on “The Golden Age of Television,” “Japanese
Literature,” “N.C. Historic Sites,” “Islam
Faith and Practice,” and “Soviet Espionage
in America.” Returning favorites include “Great
Books,” “Native Plants of the Triangle,” “Retirement
and Estate Planning,” and the “Human Genome
Project.” A course on art history will be offered
at the N.C. Museum of Art, a course on Middle Eastern
dance will be taught at the Pullen Community Center,
and a course on the history of colonial medicine will
be taught at the Cary Senior Center.
Special events and trips include a literary study
trip to Mississippi, a field trip to the Islamic Center
of Raleigh, and a day trip to the Maymont Flower Show.
Encore’s
membership fee from January through August 2005 is
$30, and includes NC State benefits
such as library privileges and discounts on campus
cultural events. Six-week courses are $40 each, lectures
are free with membership, and trip and event prices
