Political Scientist Can Discuss Confirmation Process for Supreme Court Nominee

The U.S. Constitution requires that presidents submit Supreme Court nominations to the Senate for confirmation. The Senate hearings on President Bush’s nomination of John Roberts as Supreme Court Chief Justice begin Monday, Sept. 12.

Dr. Andrew Taylor, associate professor of political science at North Carolina State University and an expert on American politics, the Presidency, and Congress, is available to discuss the confirmation process with media. Taylor says Roberts can expect tough questions from Democrats, but he doesn’t anticipate Roberts’ nomination to be rejected unless issues arise during the hearings. Taylor can be reached by phone at 919/515-8618 or e-mail.
