World-renowned paleontologist Dr. John “Jack” R. Horner will be the keynote speaker at a luncheon held by the North Carolina State University College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences at noon on Friday, Sept. 23. The luncheon is part of the college’s Alumni & Friends Weekend.

Horner may be best known for his role as advisor for Steven Spielberg’s three Jurassic Park films, and he is the basis for the films’ main character, Dr. Alan Grant. Horner’s groundbreaking perspectives on dinosaur behavior, expressed through the films, changed the face of modern paleontology.

Horner is Regents Professor of Paleontology at Montana State University and Curator of Paleontology at Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman, MT. He has published more than 100 papers and several books, including Digging Dinosaurs, which was designated one of the 100 most important science books of the 20th century. In addition to dinosaur digs in Montana, Horner has led expeditions to Mongolia, Argentina, Tanzania, Romania, France and Spain.

Limited seating is available to the public. For more information or to register for the luncheon, visit www.pams.ncsu.edu/weekend or call 919/515-3462.

In addition to the luncheon, Horner also will present a public lecture at the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22. For more information about the museum lecture, call 919/733-7450, extension 304 or 305.
