NC State Tees Off Golf Course Fund-Raising Event
FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Continuing a long tradition of academic and athletic
excellence, North Carolina State University will hold
the NC State Golf Course Campaign Kickoff dinner reception
to begin fundraising for an Arnold Palmer Signature
golf course on Centennial Campus. The dinner reception,
which features honorary chairmen Tim Clark and Carl
Pettersson, both NC State alumni and PGA Tour professionals,
will be held at Prestonwood Country Club in Cary at
6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 2.
Media coverage is invited.
Clark and Pettersson will join invitees to begin
the campaign to raise $16 million for construction
of the multipurpose golf course, research center
and clubhouse.
“I am honored to aid in the completion of this project,” said
Clark, who is 19th on the PGA Tour’s current
money list for 2005. “NC State has been waiting
for this for a long time.”
NC State
is one of only two Atlantic Coast Conference schools
without a home golf facility. The planned course
will not only aid the university’s golf team,
but will also support critical academic programs, including
the Professional Golf Management (PGM) and turfgrass
programs.
“Golf courses enhance universities; they enhance
communities,” said Nora Lynn Finch, senior associate
director of NC State athletics. “The golf course
will be open to the Raleigh community, as well as students,
staff and faculty.”
The 6,915-yard, par-71 course will be the only public
course inside the Raleigh beltline. Naming opportunities
are still available for the course, individual holes,
the clubhouse and other facility-related sites.
