Award-Winning Interior Designer to Give Public Lecture at NC State

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Award-winning interior designer Courtney Sloane, who has completed projects for celebrities such as Oscar-nominated actress/singer Queen Latifah and media mogul Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, will give a public lecture on Tuesday, Nov. 8, at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium of
Kamphoefner Hall on the North Carolina State University campus. A reception precedes the
event at 5:30 p.m. Both the reception and the lecture are free and open to the public.

Heralded as one of America’s top designers, Sloane is president and creative director of
Alternative Design, an interior design firm she founded in 1991 to work with both residential
and commercial clients. Creating environments that tell stories is Courtney Sloane’s design
philosophy. Internationally acclaimed, Sloane has been called “one of the nation’s top 101
designers.”

In addition to working with celebrities, Sloane and her team redesigned Sony Music’s
20,000-square-foot Manhattan recording studio and sound stage and worked on the
development of a theme park concept for Disney. She also helped produce an exhibit for the
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame titled “Roots, Rhyme & Rage,” which celebrated the 20th
anniversary of hip hop music. Sloane and her work has also been featured on Home and Garden
Television (HGTV), Black Entertainment Television (BET) and on the UPN reality show
“America’s Next Top Model.”

The lecture is sponsored by NC State’s College of the Design and the Office of Diversity
and African-American Affairs.
