Japan Center Hosts 21st Annual Conference

The Japan Center at North Carolina State University
is hosting its 21st annual conference, “North
Carolina and Japan: Trade and Investment,” on
Friday, Dec. 2, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The conference will bring together financial and trade
experts to discuss the U.S.-Japan trade climate and
investment opportunities, and is open to individuals
in the statewide business community interested in U.S.-Japan
trade.
The
conference will be held at the Sheraton Imperial
Hotel in Research Triangle Park. There is an $85
charge
to attend. Preregistration for the conference and lunch

The program includes two panel sessions and a luncheon
presentation.
James M. Wiseman, vice president for corporate affairs
for Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America Inc.,
in Erlanger, Ky., is the luncheon speaker. He will
be introduced by Mary P. Easley, first lady of North
Carolina and NC State executive-in-residence and senior
lecturer in the Office of the Provost at NC State.
Following are the panel sessions:
·“The Macro Perspective,” moderated
by Dr. Larry A. Nielsen, provost and executive vice
chancellor for academic affairs at NC State. Panelists
for this session are Dr. Jay Bryson, an economist with
Wachovia, in Charlotte, N.C.; The Honorable Shoji Ogawa,
Consul General of Japan, in Atlanta, Ga.; and Jennifer
Sklarew, international trade specialist
with the Office of Japan in the U.S. Department of
Commerce’s International Trade Administration.
·“Investment Opportunities, Exports, and North Carolina,” moderated
by N.C. Rep. Marian N. McLawhorn. Panelists are Peter
Cunningham, director, International Trade Division, N.C.
Dept. of Commerce; Terry Marquardt, executive director
for market development, SCYNEXIS, Inc., Research Triangle
Park; and Jack Fuller, chief executive officer, Global
Nuclear Fuel LLC, Wilmington, N.C.
The
Japan Center was established in 1980 by Gov. James
B. Hunt
Jr. to facilitate and promote closer relations
between North Carolina and Japan for the benefit of
the state. It is based in the Office of the Provost
at NC State. The conference is co-sponsored by NC State’s
College of Management.
