FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Jeremy Ficca
Jeremy Ficca

Jeremy Ficca, assistant professor of architecture in North Carolina State University’s College of Design, received the New Faculty Teaching Award from the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) in conjunction with the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS). The award recognizes “demonstrated excellence in teaching performance during the formative years of an architectural teaching career.”

Ficca is the third faculty member from NC State’s School of Architecture to consecutively receive this recognition. Other recipients were Wendy Redfield and Gail Peter Borden.

Marvin J. Malecha, dean of the College of Design, says, “I am very pleased that one of our junior faculty members has been recognized with this award. We are even more proud of the fact that this award has been received for three consecutive years. This is a testament to the quality of our program in architecture and to the reputation of our institution. However, on a personal note, it is very satisfying to know that Jeremy has been recognized for the commitment to excellence he maintains in the classroom and in his scholarly work. Such recognition bodes well for the future of our college.”

Ficca joined the NC State faculty in 2002 as a tenure-track assistant professor of architecture. He was awarded a 2003 NC State faculty research grant to explore variation within serialized manufacturing related to interior wall surfaces and the 2004 College of Design Research Assistantship Award for design prototypes of mobile classrooms. He has presented design work and papers at various conferences addressing digital media, fabrication and teaching pedagogy, and has exhibited design research in various venues including the 2004 ACADIA/AIA fabrication conference. Ficca received a 2005 ACSA Faculty Design and Research Award and a 2005 NC State University Outstanding Teaching Award.
