NC State’s 15th Annual Kwanzaa Celebration to be Held Dec. 1

North Carolina State University’s 15th annual Kwanzaa Celebration will be held on Thursday, Dec. 1, at 6 p.m. in the Witherspoon Student Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Media coverage of the event is invited. The Witherspoon Student Center is located at the corner of Dan Allen Drive and Cates Avenue on NC State’s main campus.

The celebration will feature traditional Kwanzaa rituals, dance and food. Documentary filmmaker Keith Beauchamp will be the keynote speaker and will be host for a special screening and discussion of his latest film, “The Untold Story of Emmett Louis Till.”

In 1999, Beauchamp founded Till Freedom Come Productions, a company devoted to socially significant projects that both educate and entertain. He has devoted the last nine years of his life to pursuing justice for Emmett Till. On May 10, 2004, the U.S. Dept. of Justice reopened this 50-year-old murder case citing Beauchamp's documentary as a major factor in its decision as well as the starting point for its investigation.

The event is sponsored by the Office of African-American Student Affairs. For more information call 919/515-3125.
