FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

North Carolina State University’s Encore Center for Lifelong Enrichment, which offers a variety of non-credit programs for adults aged 50 and older, has begun registration for its spring 2006 courses, trips and events.

Thirty-eight short courses covering a wide range of topics in the liberal arts and sciences are scheduled. New offerings include courses on mass media and the First Amendment, Hinduism, Shakespeare’s Tempest, alternative energy, social justice pioneers and prophets, and the Constitution and the police. Other courses will focus on history, science, financial planning,
health and wellness, international relations, literature, writing and computers.

Special events and trips include a hockey tutorial followed by a trip to a Carolina Hurricanes game, on-site overviews of the Raleigh police and fire departments, and a day trip to eastern North Carolina to explore the economics and manufacturing processes at the Mt. Olive Pickle Co. and Duplin Wine Cellars.

Encore’s membership fee from January through August 2006 is $30, and includes NC State benefits such as library privileges and discounts on campus cultural events. Six-week courses
are $40 each, lectures are free with membership, and trip and event prices vary. Call 919/515-
