Open for NC State’s Encore Center 2006 Courses,
Trips

North Carolina State University’s Encore Center
for Lifelong Enrichment, which offers a variety of non-credit
programs for adults aged 50 and older, has begun registration
for its spring 2006 courses, trips and events.
Thirty-eight short courses covering a wide range of
topics in the liberal arts and sciences are scheduled.
New offerings include courses on mass media and the
First Amendment, Hinduism, Shakespeare’s Tempest,
alternative energy, social justice pioneers and prophets,
and the Constitution and the police. Other courses will
focus on history, science, financial planning,
health and wellness, international relations, literature,
writing and computers.
Special events and trips include a hockey tutorial followed
by a trip to a Carolina Hurricanes game, on-site overviews
of the Raleigh police and fire departments, and a day
trip to eastern North Carolina to explore the economics
and manufacturing processes at the Mt. Olive Pickle
Co. and Duplin Wine Cellars.
Encore’s membership fee from January through August
2006 is $30, and includes NC State benefits such as
library privileges and discounts on campus cultural
events. Six-week courses
are $40 each, lectures are free with membership, and
