Three North Carolina State University faculty members − Dr. Leonhard E. Bernold, associate professor of civil, construction and environmental engineering; Dr. Joel J. Ducoste, associate professor of civil, construction and environmental engineering; and Dr. Maria Pramaggiore, associate professor of English and director of the film studies program − have been awarded Fulbright awards for the 2006-07 academic year.

Fulbright grants are awarded each year to leading researchers, teachers and administrators at universities worldwide, allowing the recipients to travel, conduct research and teach abroad at host universities for up to one year.

Bernold received a Fulbright Senior Specialists grant to Ireland at the University College Dublin during 2006. Bernold will work with the faculty there to develop innovative education tools.

Ducoste received a Fulbright Research Scholar award to Belgium during 2006. Ducoste will work with researchers at the Department for Applied Mathematics, Biometrics and Process Control at Ghent University. The focus of his project will be to develop and evaluate numerical models of the internal bioreactor environment to better understand how that environment influences the dynamic behavior of microorganisms and their metabolic pathways.

Pramaggiore received a Fulbright Lecturing and Research Fellowship and will spend the spring semester of 2007 in Ireland teaching at University College, Cork, and conducting research at the Irish Film Centre and Ardmore Studios. Her research project focuses on films made by American directors in Ireland during the 1970s.
