NC State’s Encore Center Opens Registration for Fall Courses and Trips
FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
North Carolina State University’s Encore Center for Lifelong Enrichment – which offers a variety of non-credit programs for adults aged 50 and older – has begun registration for its fall 2006 courses, trips and events, which run from Sept. 11 to Dec. 15.
Thirty-five short courses covering a wide range of topics in the liberal arts and sciences are scheduled. New course offerings include humanitarian intervention, global environmental politics, cloning, the history of technology, Shakespeare, choreography and digital photography basics. Special events include day trips to Stagville, Yates Mill and Tryon Palace, and a three-day trip that will focus on Culinary Chicago.
Encore’s fall open house on Sept.11 will focus on alternative energy and feature Christine Woodside, an award-winning environmental journalist. Also this fall, a lecture will be given by Dr. Bill Thomas, a visiting AARP scholar and the developer of the Eden Alternative and Green House concepts in elder care and housing.
Encore’s membership fee is $40 and runs from September 2006 through August 2007. The membership includes NC State benefits such as library privileges and discounts on campus cultural events. Most short-courses are $40 each, lectures are free with membership, and trip and event prices vary. Call 919/515-5782 for a free catalog or visit Encore on the Web at www.ncsu.edu/encore.
