North Carolina State University will host more than 2,000 rocket-firing, egg-launching, and robot-building students from 150 middle and high schools across the state for the finals of the North Carolina Science Olympiad (NCSO) on Friday and Saturday, April 4-5.

The two-day academic tournament features a series of individual and team events–such as the Egg-O-Naut, Crave the Wave, Robo-cross, and Junk Yard Challenge–that focus on the various science disciplines of biology, earth science, chemistry, physics and technology. More than 7,000 students from 250 schools in 55 counties participated in 11 regional tournaments across North Carolina to qualify for the state tournament.

The top two middle- and high-school teams will represent North Carolina in the national finals May 30-31 in Washington, D.C.

The opening ceremony will be held in Reynolds Coliseum from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday. Competitive events will be held across campus from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Saturday, followed by an awards ceremony at Reynolds Coliseum.

Sponsored by NC State's Science House, NCSO is the largest science and technology competition for youth in North Carolina. For more information about the Science Olympiad, visit www.sciencenc.com.
