Windows NT in Academic Computing

Beginning in 1998, Information Technology began supporting Windows NT in central student computing labs, and providing the technologies we developed or incorporated into the project to campus academic units.

The technology of this Unity-NT environment has now been documented in a "WolfpackRed" paper. To download or view this paper, see Introduction to Unity-NT Technology.

As part of the Unity-NT project, we have developed a number of our own services related to Windows NT that have web pages:

We developed a network-based installation mechanism for Windows NT installs on campus.

We developed a custom login program (or GINA) to authenticate Windows NT workstations to Kerberos/AFS and NDS, without the need for Windows NT servers.

We implemented an authenticated debit printing service for both Windows NT and Windows 95/98.

We deploy a number of applications for computing lab using the Novell Application Launcher (not currently linked).

Most of the sourcecode for what we've developed is available.
