The University-Community Brotherhood Dinner was established in 1982. The primary objective of this annual event is to reaffirm NC State’s commitment to maintaining an inclusive university community that values the contributions of African American scholars and humanitarians. This is done by inviting a diverse group of individuals from the University and the local community to honor an outstanding African American whose work has had a significant impact on society. Brotherhood Dinner honorees receive the Benjamin E. Mays Memorial Award. Past recipients include:
