The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences has a very long tradition in International work. We have had USAID program involvement for the past fifty years. On two different occasions, our College has been heavily involved at a very high level in Peru. The Agricultural University in La Molina has many marks of NCSU involvement. Our College has also been very active in the creation and operation of the International Potato Center (CIP) in Lima. The College provides support and encouragement to both students and faculty who wish to get involved in international studies and programs. Our faculty are well-connected internationally with a variety of collaborative research, teaching and extension programs in other countries. Many educational leaders in other countries have been trained on our campus and maintain strong ties with the college. We are also providing opportunities for students to study abroad, to expand their horizons in a world where their future depends upon their global awareness. Please also visit the CALS International Programs website. CALS Assistant Dean for International Programs: Dr. Larry A. Nelson

Partnership with Moldova
In January 2001, Gov. Hunt appointed the Moldova Task Force which is chaired by Secretary of State, Elaine Marshall, and former NC Speaker of the House, Philip Baddour. As a result of this collaboration, an exchange of faculty between NCSU and the Agrarian State University of Moldova was developed and continues very active. CALS has received a $200,000 grant from the Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State to partner with faculty of the State Agricultural University of Moldova (SAUM) in Chisinau to assist them in developing a post-harvest technology program at their university for the years 2003-2006. Faculty from Moldova visit the NCSU campus and likewise NCSU faculty visit their campus. Curriculum development, together with the development of a post-harvest laboratory on their campus are two goals of the collaboration. Already CALS has donated 185 computers and peripheral equipment along with 10,000 books and journals to the SAUM campus. CALS Study Abroad Opportunities (Summer Programs)
CALS is promoting three Summer Programs: Victoria, Australia; Agroecology in Tropical America in Costa Rica; and Biotechnology in Poznan, Poland. The program in Australia provides students the opportunity to spend six weeks in Australia studying Australian culture and agriculture. In addition to a variety of farm visits, students will learn about Australia's primary industries from staff in the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. The study tour also includes visits to the cities of Bendigo, Ballarat, and the nation's capital of Canberra. A second portion of the program for which students will receive CHASS credit is to be held at the University of Melbourne. The Program in Costa Rica is led by the University of Georgia and covers experiences in Crop Science, Ecology and Horticulture. We are making this opportunity available to students in hopes that this program will be a joint one between NCSU and the University of Georgia.

Summer Study Abroad in Poznan, Poland
The Poznan program is sponsored by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) and is designed for students interested in biotechnology or pre-med. In Poznan, students will utilize the city and surrounding area to explore science, history, and culture. The program will be housed at Adam Mickiewicz University (AMU) and the Agricultural University (AU). Students will have the unique opportunity to interact with local English-speaking Polish university students. AMU is one of the largest academic centres in Poland with over 2,100 faculty members and about 34,000 students. The classes, excursions, and field trips offered will encourage the students to learn more about this new member of the European community but the oldest country and culture in Europe.
