The College of Design encourages its students and faculty to study and explore geography, culture and design in all parts of the globe, through its own programs and those organized by other institutions. Over 40% of design students participate in some study abroad program during their four years on campus.

College of Design faculty-led programs of travel and study have taken design students to the Czech Republic, Spain, Italy, Russia, Venezuela, Mexico, India and Ghana. Many of these programs are offered on a regular schedule.

NEW Prague Institute
Building on fourteen years of summer design studios in Prague, Czech Republic, since January 2005, the College of Design offers year-round educational programming in Prague, under the auspices of the newly established Prague Institute. This center is the first international center for NC State University, with facilities in the historic city center. Semester-long courses of study are organized and presented by faculty from the different departments of the College in collaboration with local designers and scholars. In addition, there are summer studios and intersession short programs. In all programs, the unique context of an old European city and the larger eastern Europe setting will be incorporated through local case studies, field trips and short excursions.

Spring : The Landscape Architecture department sends faculty to share with Czech designers the teaching of 12 students in a design studio and courses related to the Prague urban context.

Summer : Rotating departments (Art+Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design) offer design studios for 24 students.

Fall : The Architecture department sends faculty to share with Czech designers the teaching of 12 students in a design studio and courses related to the Prague urban context.
