College of Design faculty-led programs of travel and study have taken design students to the Czech Republic, Spain, Italy, Russia, Venezuela, Mexico, India and Ghana. Many of these programs are offered on a regular schedule. More than 65% of design students participate in some study abroad program during their four years on campus.

The NC State Prague Institute, an initiative of the College of Design, encourages all NC State students and faculty to study and explore culture and design Prague, Czech Republic through its many programs.

NC State Prague Institute

Building on fourteen years of summer design studios in Prague, Czech Republic, since January 2005, the College of Design offers year-round educational programming in Prague, under the auspices of the newly established Prague Institute. This Institute is the first international center for NC State University located in the historic city center. Semester-long courses of study are organized and presented by faculty from the different departments of the College in collaboration with local designers and scholars. In addition, there are summer studios and intersession short programs. In all programs, the unique context of an old European city and the larger eastern Europe setting will be incorporated through local case studies, field trips and short excursions.

Spring: The Landscape Architecture department sends faculty to share with Czech designers the teaching of 15 students in a design studio and courses related to the Prague urban context. The Art & Design Department offers two studios: Fashion and Costume Design taught by fashion celebrity Nina Smetanova includes an excursion to Paris or another major fashion city; and Digital Photography with Czech photographers and includes an optional Photography Tour with a prominent Photographer.

Summer: Rotating departments (Art+Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design) offer design studios for 36 students. The General Studies Program offers students the option to take GER/GEP courses in the summer.
The College of Education, the College of Management and International Studies are offered in graduate programs during the summer. 

Fall: The Architecture department sends faculty to share with Czech designers the teaching of two architecture studios and courses related to the Prague urban context.

For Fall, Spring & Summer
In addition, students from around the campus take General Education Program courses in the Humanities and Sciences.

: Other College departments will occasionally offer semester-long studios and courses.
