Somos...El Cambio

03-21-09

For the past five years, Mi Familia, the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), Sube Ritmo (formerly known as La Raza de Mil Colores) and Destino have worked together to create a show that represents the flavor, life, energy and most importantly the diversity within the Hispanic/Latino culture here on the campus of NC State.

“Somos…We Are” was the first Somos, organized in 2003, and the tradition continued. “Somos…El Cambio” means “We are the Change”.

The performances that night showcased a unique blend of Hispanic/Latino culture through traditional dances, spoken word, vocal performances, and skits that will celebrate diversity, while educating and entertaining the audience.

This was an exhilarating show that displayed the essence and exciting change of the Latino culture and community through the eyes of the students at NC State.

The event included special performances by: the Latin dance team Sube Ritmo, Traditional Folkloric Dance, the Latino band Mexcla, NC State’s premier hip-hop cultural dance team Fusion, America Latina: Fashion Show by College of Textiles students, Lambda Pi Chi Sorority Inc., Cobo Brothers Dance Company, Poem “Mi Cultura” by Nicole Machado.

New York comedian Bill Santiago hosted the event.
