Position: Director, Office of International Services
Beginning Date: August 1
Salary Range: $60,000 to $85,000
Essential Job Duties:
To provide oversight and leadership to the Office of International Services. To manage the the non-immigrant student and
Exchange Visitor visa advising, processing, and reporting requirements for NC State University. To
promote international education goals and objectives on campus, provide cross-cultural programs,
and to facilitate the success of the international community at NC State. The OIS Director reports to the Vice Provost for International Affairs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the OIS team in providing the services and programs that assist both the University and the international community in achieving success in meeting communicated goals
- Manage the OIS staff and the student/scholar programs of the office in support of the University’s strategic plan, division initiatives, and international education objective in general
- Develop, oversee, and meet the budget, personnel, procedural, and programmatic requirements of the office
- Develop and maintain federal compliance programs related to international students and scholars (e.g., reporting requirements with the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security); fulfill or delegate PDSO and RO functions and responsibilities
- Prepare for and respond to requests and requirements for reports, resolution of issues, and responses to incidents that involve unit activities or the international student and scholar community
- Provide effective and innovative educational, cultural, and orientation programs for the international student and scholar community at NC State
- Participate in active capacity as both Director and Advisor working directly with OIS team and partners to assure compliance with requirements as well as the agreed upon standards of service and progressive educational values are fulfilled
- Oversee and coordinate unit outreach and communications (website, emails, publications, etc.,)
- Network with other campus units and community partners in support of unit goals, requirements, and activities
- Provide for the advising needs of international students and scholars at NC State (by delegation and/or personal attention – particularly in times of crisis or in complicated circumstances)
- Arrange for professional development opportunities for OIS staff and represent NC State University among local and professional (e.g., NAFSA and NCAIE) organizations
*By federal law, one must be a US citizen or lawful permanent resident of the US to become a Designated School Official or Alternate Responsible Officer with access to the SEVIS system.
Minimum Education/Experience:
Master’s Degree in relevant field and experience leading and managing an international office at a university and/or similar educational organization, preferably with a large international population. Thorough familiarity with F and J immigration regulations.
Departmental Required Skills:
- Leadership experience and success at leading teams
- Articulate and effective communicator (oral and written)
- Well organized and detail oriented. Ability to prioritize, achieve consensus, and make good decisions
- Computer skills, database management experience (PeopleSoft or similar, FSAAtlas or similar, Microsoft Office)
- Minimum 5-year working experience as an international student and/or scholar advisor in a large U.S. University
- Familiarity with the university environment, ability to work effectively with faculty and administrators
- Significant overseas or cross-cultural experience
- Proficiency in a foreign language is preferred
