SCOLA Enrollment Form for Students, Staff, and Faculty at NC State University

This form may be used by any currently enrolled student or currently employed staff/faculty at NC State University to request a userid and password to access SCOLA. SCOLA is a nonprofit organization that rebroadcasts foreign newscasts and cultural programming from scores of other countries in their native languages. OIS subscribes to this educational service and the two primary channels can be seen on the University's campus cable network (Channels 93 and 94) around the clock. Every thirty minutes a newscast from a different country/language is on the air. You can go to the SCOLA website to see or download a broadcast schedule in order to see what channel and at what time the country or language of your choice is scheduled to air. Students, staff, and faculty can also watch all four streaming channels on the internet or use the Insta-Class online foreign language learning tool if you obtain a userid and password from OIS. It's easy! Just fill out the few questions below and submit the form, then OIS will email you within 24 business hours a password you can use to logon (a fast connection is recommended). Please do not share the userid or password with anyone since we need to know how many people are using this service and our contract limits our access to the University community only. We periodically change userids and passwords, so it is critical to have a completed form on file with a valid email so we can alert you to any changes.

Please note that this is a pilot program for us at NC State and we hope to continue it if there is enough interest so tell your friends and colleagues at the University about it. NC State faculty are permitted to download and embed SCOLA material into their course curricula during the 2005-2006 academic year, but users are cautioned about depending on this service or making it a required part of a curriculum since it may not be continued (for lack of use or lack of funds) and other factors (poor reception due to weather, misalignment of the satellite dish, a maximum number of users may be logged on, etc.,) could temporarily prevent access. OIS cannot assist you with technical issues, but we would appreciate hearing from you if you have problems, suggestions, or other comments.
