OIS History
The first international student at NC State University matriculated in 1893 and there were no special facilities or services for international students until the early 1960s. When the number of international students grew large enough and student immigration regulations became complex enough, the University formed an International Student Office (ISO) as a unit in Student Affairs.
Previous ISO Directors of record include:
| Mr. Jon Heise | |
| Mr. Phil Weaver | |
| Ms. Marty Babcock | (1978 - 1980) |
| Mr. Etchison (?) | |
| Mr. Don Roberts | ( - 1991) |
| Ms. Betty Craven | (1991-1996) |
| Ms. Hanya Redwan (Acting) | (1996) |
In the spring of 1996, the ISO was merged with the scholars branch of the Office of International Programs, was re-structured and re-named, and placed in Academic Affairs. Michael Bustle has been the director of the Office of International Scholar and Student Services since 1996. Since then, there has been explosive growth in the number of international students and programs at NC State.
