OIS Mission Statement
The Office of International Services (OIS) at NC State facilitates the enrollment or employment of foreign nationals and provides essential international support services to the entire university community.

OIS Vision Statement
A dedicated team of caring professionals providing cheerful and efficient service, simplifying wherever possible forms and procedures regarding international employment and/or study, and most importantly helping to create and nurture a climate of inter-cultural awareness, respect, and collaboration among all members of the academic and surrounding communities.

Ethics and Standards
OIS staff members all subscribe to the ethics, principles, and standards as outlined by our professional organization, NAFSA: Association of International Educators (http://www.nafsa.org).

Function
The Office of International Services (OIS) is charged with meeting the immigration, advising, and programming needs for the approximately 2,500 nonimmigrant students, staff, and faculty at NC State University.

OIS staff members are eager to promote and provide services which foster true educational and cultural exchange between U.S. and non-U.S. scholars - whether degree seeking or research and teaching oriented. We provide immigration information and advice both to nonimmigrants who wish to study or work here at NC State and to NC State departments that wish to admit or employ them. Such advice includes maintenance of status, employment authorization, transfer of school or employer, etc.

OIS works closely with other academic units at NC State such as the Office of International Affairs, the Graduate School, Study Abroad, Undergraduate Admissions, the English as a Second Language Program, and individual colleges and departments- as well as with student organizations and other support units including Co-operative Education, Records and Registration, and Human Resources.

OIS does not work for the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) nor any other federal agency or law enforcement office - OIS is an administrative and services unit of NC State University. It is the responsibility of the OIS advisors to give the best possible advice to (and correctly process appropriate immigration forms for) the international students and employees at NC State University. We cannot give immigration advice to students, employees, or employers not directly associated with NC State University or for matters not related to studying and/or working at NC State University. A list of immigration attorneys in North Carolina is available upon request. It is the nonimmigrant student and employee's own responsibility to maintain nonimmigrant status (including timely extensions, no unauthorized employment, maintaining a valid passport, etc.,) and while OIS advisors will advise students and employees as to their rights, benefits, and procedures pursuant to their status, OIS cannot and will not take responsibility for neither a student's or employee's maintenance of status nor any consequences arising from the action (or non-action) of the student or employee.
