    GENERAL / HISTORY

Q - Now that GroupWise is the official calendar, can anyone in a non-GroupWise environment get a new account?

A - As a preliminary step in transitioning to GroupWise (GW) as the campus-wide calendaring system, OIT is offering individual GW accounts to IT support staff in colleges and departments who do not already use the system. This will give support staff time to become familiar with the product so they can better serve their customers when the new implementation of GW begins this summer.

OIT is in the process of working with campus groups to determine how the GW calendar will be implemented campus-wide. The existing GW policies, procedures and standard options may be changed to meet broader campus needs. For these reasons, new accounts for the general staff, faculty and student population will not be created at this time.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Q - What problem are we trying to solve?

A - The problem that this team is trying to address is the fact that there are two calendaring systems on campus that do not interact with each other. Having two calendar systems makes it very difficult to schedule meetings, do busy searches, etc. with customers using the other system. To solve this problem, we will select a single supported calendar system for use by all campus customers who wish to use a calendar.
