How can I get a WolfWise account?

Currently OIT is not provisioning WolfWise accounts for the general campus. Sometime during the fall of 2008, OIT will begin offering accounts to the general campus population. Please refer to our Migration page for a timeline on the implementation of the WolfWise system. However, if your department is currently a GroupWise customer, we are still generating accounts for those customers. Please contact the NC State Help Desk for more information or to get an account.

Tell me about WolfWise . . .

  • Proxy Tasks
  • Document Management Tasks

Learning WolfWise

Novell: there is some fairly detailed online documentation available on Novell's website at http://www.novell.com/documentation/gw7/gw7_readmeus/gw7_readmeus.html

Novell / Mac Client: This documentation refers specifically to the Mac / Linux "Cross-Platform" client; CLICK HERE.

Messaging Architects: These are some good training materials from another company, which we will also have available in a pre-printed brochure. But you can download and print a copy here: http://www.messagingarchitects.com/en/training/quickstart/

Desktop Clients

In order to use the GroupWise client or access files from CS servers from any off campus location, customers must have VPN software installed. GroupWise WebAccess (https://gwweb.ncsu.edu) does not require the VPN client.

All computers (including personally owned) connecting to the campus network are required to install and enable the University site-licensed anti-virus software (Symantec Antivirus). More information on this requirement can be found in the Campus AntiVirus Requirements Regulation.

To download the campus VPN software and access installation instructions, log in to the VPN @ NC State secure site with your Unity id and password. Once logged in, you must agree to comply with the NC State VPN Agreement in order to proceed.

Customers must log in to the VPN client each time they wish to access CS supported services. Instructions on setting up the VPN client are available HERE.

  • Windows client: A proven e-mail client for over a decade, the GroupWise Windows client is a robust, full-featured access point from your Windows desktop to your WolfWise mailbox.
  • Macintosh clients: The GroupWise Cross-Platform client offers the most vital GroupWise features to Linux and Macintosh users, with additional GroupWise functionality being added with each new GroupWise release.

  • Linux client
  • Evolution client: the official personal information manager and workgroup information management tool for GNOME. It combines e-mail, calendar, address book, and task list management functions. It has been an official part of GNOME since version 2.8 in September 2004. Evolution development is sponsored primarily by Novell.
Its user interface and functionality are similar to Microsoft Outlook. It has some distinguishing features: iCalendar support, full-text indexing of all incoming mail, powerful email filters writable in Scheme,[1] and a "Search Folders" feature (i.e., saved searches that look like normal mail folders).
Evolution can be connected to a Microsoft Exchange Server using its web interface and an Evolution add-on formerly called Ximian Connector. Using gnome-pilot, it may be synchronized with Palm Pilot devices, and OpenSync enables it to be synchronized with mobile telephones and other PDAs.

GroupWise Instant Messenger

NetStorage (access home & share directories remotely)

Remote Desktop (requires Windows XP and a high-speed connection)

This document was created with a focus on working with the desktop client. During the Fall of 2008, faculty and staff with a UnityID will have a WolfWise Calendar Account created for them automatically. Once the WolfWise account is assigned, you can log into it with your UnityID or First and Last name and Unity password. Until then your WolfWise user name is: [UnityID] and your password is given to you by the person who created your account. This is a temporary password and should be changed the first time you log in.

NOTE: Once WolfWise is rolled out to campus, everyone’s password will be their unity password. Current users of the calendar will be notified of this by email. For additional information about the WolfWise Email / Calendar solution see http://wolfwise.ncsu.edu
