Placement testing information Mathematics Achievement Test    You must take the “SAT Subject Test – Mathematics Level 2” in the spring prior to attending orientation and have your scores reported electronically to NC State (code: 5496).  If you do not take this test it could result in a lower placement than you expected.  Visit www.collegeboard.com to obtain test dates and to register for the test. You must also take the NC State online Mathematics Skill test.  You will need your Unity ID and password to login and take the test.  (Your Unity ID is displayed on your WolfPAW application status screen.)  The test is located at https://www.webassign.net/ncsu/math.html and there is no charge. The only exceptions to the placement test requirements will be for students who have College Board Advanced Placement Calculus scores of 2 or better, or students who graduated from the NC School of Science and Mathematics and have letters of placement, students with transfer credit for a math course equivalent to a NC State course, or students enrolled in a 2-year Agricultural Institute program (separate math placement testing will be conducted at Orientation). For more information contact Dr. Harvey Charlton, Department of Mathematics, at 919.513.2291 or at charlton@math.ncsu.edu.   Foreign Language Placement Information Students enrolling in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHASS), the First Year College (FYC), or the College of Management (COM) are encouraged to take the SAT II in a Foreign Language (along with their Math SAT II) so that they will know their foreign language placement before attending Orientation.  Students should make arrangements with their high school guidance counselor to take the Math and Foreign Language SAT II tests. Students enrolling in CHASS, FYC, or COM who have not taken the SAT II or the AP test in a Foreign Language need to take a placement test during Orientation.  Students in all other colleges who did not meet the university FL* 102 proficiency requirement (explanation below), or who wish to take a foreign language, also need to take the placement test during Orientation. Computerized placement tests in French, German, Spanish, and Latin are offered during Orientation.  For all other languages, students should go to http://sasw.chass.ncsu.edu/fl/ and contact the appropriate faculty member.  If students are beginning a language they have never studied before, they should enroll in FL* 101.
