What happens at Orientation?

 

New Student Orientation is a full-day program. Students should expect to arrive on campus no later than 8:45 a.m. and stay on campus until 5:00 p.m. in order to receive vital information on student services, online course registration, and their college and major.

Orientation Registration and Check-in
North Gallery, 2nd floor, Talley Student Center

Be sure to browse through the information folder you receive at Check-in and review the helpful handouts provided by various student groups, departments and offices on campus.
Parents should visit the Parents & Families Services table on the second floor to collect information.


9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
University Welcome

Ballroom, 2nd floor, Talley Student Center

Students will hear vital information from a number of NC State administrators and offices.


10:15 a.m. – 12:10 p.m.  
Break-out sessions

Talley Student Center

Choose from the following the Break-out sessions that most interest you. All will be offered during both times.
  • Getting Involved at NC State
  • University Career Center
  • Time and Stress Management
  • Undergraduate Tutorial Center and Academic Writing
  • Office of Academic Advising Services
  • University Dining

12:10 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Optional Tours and Lunch

Ballroom, 2nd floor, Talley Student Center & Fountain Dining Hall

Choose from optional tours such as campus tours, tours of Carmichael Gymnasium or D.H. Hill Library. If you would not like a tour, Orientation Counselors will escort you to lunch at Fountain Dining Hall. You will also have an opportunity to have your student ID card made during this time.

2:15 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
College/Institute Meetings, Advising, Registration
Various Locations on Campus

Many college representatives will be available to provide information on academic policies and regulations, discuss departmental procedures, review course transfer policies, or provide academic advising and registration assistance. Take this opportunity to ask questions about your placement scores and class schedule.
