The Court of North Carolina is surrounded by some of the oldest buildings on campus. This pleasant open space has been well loved by faculty and students alike for over a century and today contains a plaque dedicated to them and to future generations. Many students and faculty enjoy spending free time in the Court of North Carolina and between classes, it is one of the busiest areas on campus. On warm days you will often see classes being held in the Outdoor Classroom that was donated by the Class of 1987. The above picture was taken in
February 1947. On the right you will notice temporary structures that
served
as classrooms. Due to the
passage of the G.I. Bill in 1944, enrollment on campus increased dramatically
in the years following World War II, causing an urgent need for more
classrooms. |
