Roll over to see Thompson Theater today (David Blake)

Built in 1925, Thompson Theater was originally the university’s first gymnasium. The purpose of the gymnasium was to provide routine physical fitness programs because military drills were no longer required after World War I. It was the first indoor athletic facility to have two gyms, an indoor swimming pool, and an elevated indoor track.

It was also the home for intercollegiate athletics until the construction of Reynolds Coliseum. After the athletics programs moved to Reynolds, Thompson Gymnasium was renovated in 1963 to become Thompson Theater with seating for 250 people.
