College of Engineering Advising and Course Registration

For transfer students in the College of Engineering, follow the instructions below to ensure a smooth advising and course registration process.

Engineering Transfer Student Advising Process

April - June

Students pay their Advanced Enrollment Deposit (AED) indicating their intention to attend NC State this fall and register for Transfer Orientation.

April - June

The College of Engineering assigns academic advisors within 30 days of AED payments.

April - June

Students find their assigned academic advisors within in MyPack Portal (MyPack Portal: For Students --> Academic Records --> My Advisor).  General advising questions (ex. prerequisite course structures, semester-by-semester plans, course restriction definitions, etc.) may be directed to at any time, but specific questions (ex. how transfer courses may/may not be used to fulfill degree requirements) should be reserved for assigned advisors.

April - June

Students contact their assigned advisor to learn how their department handles transfer advising.  Students may be asked to schedule an appointment, visit posted drop-in advising hours, accept optional email advising, or sign up for a group transfer advising session offered in the department.  Walk-ins are discouraged.  Please keep in mind that fall classes start on August 20; some advisors may request your patience in awaiting advising.

April - August The College of Engineering and/or individual engineering departments may communicate with transfer students prior to Transfer Orientation, so students should be sure to check the email they have on file with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions periodically for any additional information.
June - July

Transfer students attend a Transfer Orientation session.

1. Should students contact an advisor in their college before attending Transfer Orientation?

Yes. As detailed above, students should seek advising before Transfer Orientation.  Transfer advising will not be available on the day of transfer orientation.

2. Should students register for courses before attending Transfer Orientation?

Yes. Students should register for courses before Transfer Orientation.  An academic advisor will need to release the advising hold prior to students being able to register for courses.

3. Who should students contact in their college with advising and course registration questions?

Students should contact their assigned advisor within MyPack, if listed.  Otherwise, advisors in the office of Academic Affairs ( are available for general advising and registration questions.
