New Student Orientation Volunteer Corps

New Student Orientation will be recruiting members of the NC State community to join the 2008 Orientation Volunteer Corps.  Participants will assist with a variety of orientation tasks while serving as "good will" ambassadors to new students and their parents.  State faculty, emeritus faculty, and staff are encouraged to participate in this unique opportunity to welcome the Class of 2012.  For more information contact Katie Potts at 513-8224 or katie_potts@ncsu.edu.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

  • Welcome students and parents at check-in
  • Answer questions about NC State as needed
  • Serve as campus escorts as needed
  • Assist with the class enrollment process via non-advising acitivites

WHERE WILL I VOLUNTEER?

  • Check-in activities on Day 1 of Orientation will take place at Lee Residence Hall on West Campus.
  • Class registration activities on Day 2 will take place at each academic college's computer labs. The locations will vary by session according to which college is hosting Orientation.

WHAT ARE THE DATES OF ORIENTATION 2008?

  • Monday and Tuesday, June 30-July 1
  • Monday and Tuesday, July 7-8
  • Thursday and Friday, July 10-11
  • Monday and Tuesday July 14-15
  • Thursday and Friday, July 17-18
  • Monday and Tuesday, July 21-22
  • Thursday and Friday, July 24-25
  • Monday and Tuesday, July 28-29
  • Thursday and Friday, July 31-August 1

WHAT DAYS AND TIMES AM I NEEDED?

  June 30, July 7, 10, 14, 17, 21, 24, 28, 31 - Day One Activities
Time Duties
8:00 am - 9:45 am Orientation Check-In
  Welcome New Students and Parents
  Assist with the distribution of Orientation materials
  Help direct students and parents to Orientation activities

  July 1, 8, 11, 15, 18, 22, 25, 29, August 1- Day Two Activities
Time Duties
10:00 pm -1:00 pm Assist with Online class enrollment (through non-advising activities)

WHAT IF I CAN ONLY VOLUNTEER FOR A FEW HOURS?
That's great! Sign up for the dates and times that best fit your schedule. You will only be scheduled for the dates and times you specify on your Volunteer Application.

HOW CAN I RECEIVE MORE INFORMATION?
Call New Student Orientation at 515-1234, mention the Volunteer Corps, and we'll answer your questions. You can also email katie_potts@ncsu.edu with questions.

WILL I RECEIVE VOLUNTEER TRAINING?
YES! Volunteers are asked to attend a brief training session to discuss more specific details regarding Orientation. You will be notified with the times and dates available for our training sessions.

Training is also encouraged for past volunteers to ensure that all volunteers are notified of updates and changes in the Summer 2008 Orientation sessions.

WHAT WILL I GAIN FROM THE EXPERIENCE?
