  • Evaluate inventions for patentability in partnership with the Intellectual Property Committee

    • US & foreign patent applications
  • NC State innovators' inventions, software & know-how will be protected by appropriate legal means including US and/or foreign patents when appropriate in a timely manner.
  • NC State research community will be aware of and be satisfied with the services provided by OTT to protect their research.
  • NC State will own and maintain a nationally significant & powerful patent portfolio.

Commercialize New Technologies
  • Attract and cultivate industry interest in NC State's technology portfolio

Manage Start Up Company Formation
  • Provide legal support and licensing arrangements to facilitate the spinout of companies based on university intellectual property
  • Determine viability and market potential of candidate technologies and suitability for startup creation.
  • NC State will continue to spin-out viable companies based on appropriate innovations.
  • Economic development in the form of market share, new jobs created, and funding attracted to the region.
  • Number and impact of start up companies spun out of NC State.  Specifically startup company measures including number of employees, VC funding, revenue generated and IPOs.
Provide IP Outreach, Education & Resources
  • Dissiminate information about IP policies and procedures thru website, print collateral and event development
  • Develop forums, networking events and resources to encourage and support full spectrum innovation
  • The NC State research community will be educated regarding OTT's services and University policy related to technology transfer.
  • The NC State research community will be satisfied with the quality and quantity of networking and professional development opportunities sponsored by OTT.
