CDA/MTA Guides
The Office of Technology Transfer manages Confidential Disclosure Agreements (CDA) and Material Transfer Agreements (MTA) on behalf of the University. When a University researcher wishes to discuss his/her work with individuals outside of NC State, the Office of Technology Transfer (OTT) can prepare and execute a CDA on behalf of the University. When materials are transferred into or out of NC State, an MTA is needed. The pupose of the MTA is to ensure that the investigator's freedom to perform research, publish data and exert rights to ownership are not limited. The provisions of the MTA should not conflict with academic missions of NC State. CALS Researcher Note: Effective May 16, 2008, NCARS has requested that faculty submit all MTAs for review and approval to the Associate Dean for Research or Research Director, rather than submitting directly to OTT. Routing MTAs through the NCARS Office will inform the directors of MTA activity evolving from CALS research programs. When NCARS receives an MTA, NCARS will review it conceptually and notify OTT that the transaction is supported. OTT will negotiate the final agreement. If OTT receives an MTA that has not been reviewed by NCARS, it will be returned to the investigator for proper submission to NCARS. Please contact the NCARS Office (919-515-2717) with CALS-related MTA questions.
