Trail Descriptions

From the Ocean Isle Beach Access Site, paddle southeasterly across the Intracoastal Waterway and enter Still Creek. Paddle on the southwesterly side of the creek and continue along the right-hand shoreline, passing Tubbs Inlet. At approximately 2 miles you will enter Jinks Creek and follow it until you come to the entrance to The Big Narrows. Continue paddling up the Narrows and re-enter the Intracoastal Waterway at approximately 3.6 miles, paddle around the point and under NC 179, and enter Blane Creek. Continue along Blane Creek and re-enter the Intracoastal Waterway at approximately 6.8 miles. Continue southwesterly along the Intracoastal Waterway, cross over to the western side and continue on to the Sunset Beach Access Site at the approximate 7.2 mile point.
Note: As you paddle this trail be aware that large, fast moving boats use the Intracoastal Waterway.

From the Sunset Beach Access Site paddle across the Intracoastal Waterway and enter Bonaparte Creek, continue along Bonaparte Creek, following along the southern shoreline. At approximately 2 miles you will enter into South Carolina and the mouth of Little River. Continue paddling along the south shore of Goat Island until you come to Horse Ford Creek. Enter Horse Ford Creek and continue to the Intracoastal Waterway. Cross the Intracoastal Waterway and continue along the northeastern shore of Colkins Neck. At approximately 4.2 miles you will re-enter North Carolina at the mouth of the Calabash River. Continue up the river where you will reach Captain John's at approximately 5.2 miles, located on the northern shore of the River in Calabash.
Note: As you paddle this trail be aware that large, fast moving boats use the Intracoastal Waterway. Much of this trail is located on large rivers and open waters that are used by large boats and greatly influenced by tides.

From Captain John's, paddle up the Calabash River. You will cross under NC 179 at the approximately .9 mile point. Paddle as far up the river as you like then return to either Captain John's or Captain Andy's. Captain Andy's is located just off the river approximately .2 from the river just before you pass under NC 179.
