International Study

Will Arrington '08, stands at the ancient Incan city Machu Picchu in Peru.

The broadening of cultural horizons is a critical element of the Park Scholarships program, and includes both travel to state and national sites where classes of Park Scholars conduct critical studies, as part of learning laboratories,as well as have exposure to speakers, communication media, and literature. International study is strongly encouraged for every Park Scholar, and NC State University has setup fall and spring semester exchange programs with several universities abroad.

Study Abroad Scholarships and Grants

Park Scholars may apply for additional scholarships to support their study abroad experiences. NC State's Study Abroad Office offers scholarships for summer study experiences. Park Scholars also have the opportunity to apply for travel grants awarded by the Park Alumni Society in order to cover airfare for fall and spring study abroad experiences. Students choosing international study in Spain are eligible for grants awarded in honor of the late Vincent Maniscalco '04, a Park Scholar who studied abroad Salamanca, Spain. These grants are made possible by Vincent's family and friends.

The grant the Park Alumni Society gave me to study abroad was a great help. It enabled me to go to a place that is truly a world treasure, the Galapagos Islands, for environmental study. Without the grant, I cannot fathom having been able to go. It is comforting to know that we have that kind of willingness and support from the Park Alumni.
